January 2009
Happy New Year!
Welcome back to the Georgia Office of Adult
Education Regional Website. Many exciting happenings are featured this quarter.
One of our newest features is the Georgia Adult Education Health Literacy Toolkit. The toolkit was developed to provide resources to help adult education professionals:
- better understand the problem of health literacy
and its affect on learners.
- develop and implement creative approaches to
help learners increase health literacy skills through adult education instruction.
- develop partnerships between literacy and healthcare
organizations.
The Health Literacy Toolkit is divided into 4 sections:
- professional development
opportunities,
- lesson plans,
- resources, and
- health literacy projects.
A link to the Health Literacy
Toolkit is located near the top of the navigation bar on the left side of this page.
Every regional page has been updated with
articles submitted by local programs. Here is a sampling of stories that you will find from each region.
In Region I, the DeKalb Technical College GED® testing office received an award at the
Fall Adult Education Institute for being one of the top three large-sized centers with the largest number of test-takers in
2007.
The Region II page features a North Georgia Technical College student who is studying for the GED Tests while she plans a solo
cross-country flight.
Joi King, an adult education instructor, has
been named the Instructor of the Year for Middle Georgia Technical College in Region III.
Business partners and community members recently
participated in the J. David Russell Golf Tournament to benefit adult education services at Region IV’s Ogeechee Technical College.
Please take the time to see what is happening
in your region and others. In addition, “PD Spotlight” and “News Stories” have been updated.
